Hampton Prep School - Hampton, London

The prep school’s outdated, single-storey building has been converted into two-storeys which, by reducing the building’s footprint, has created a larger external space for sports pitches, amenity and bio-diversity areas.

The scheme features a MUGA, cricket cages and natural pitches, balancing the school’s sports activities according to seasonal constraints. Areas of hard landscaping have been designed, creating attractive assembly spaces where pupils can congregate and chat, as well as meeting spaces for parents dropping off and collecting children where parental friendships can also develop. The spaces form an important transition between the school and the natural landscape, engaging the pupils’ imagination and enhancing the learning experience.

Such landscape and development proposals offer the possibility of diverse educational opportunities. By planting native species with their wildlife associations in a learning environment children can learn and be aware of the interrelated nature of the natural world.
