Cheddars Lane - Cambridge

Cheddars Lane student accommodation complex in Cambridge has been celebrated as a ‘commendable scheme’ by the city council’s design and conservation panel. PLACE developed the urban form, massing and overall masterplan of the site, providing housing for 321 students, and the central green space which allows for both open areas for student socialisation and more secluded areas for group study.

The landscape features desire lines which run through the central green space connecting the buildings together while creating dynamic spaces, both passive and active. A selection of ornamental, specimen and avenue trees define these spaces while a selection of robust planting and materials provides a resilient backdrop to the vibrant scheme. The transformation of a former brownfield site to a thriving residential development brings substantial environmental and social improvements to the area.
